The Building and Zoning Department provides the following services:

Planning and Zoning – Primary duties include but are not limited to administrating the Upson County Unified Development Ordinance.  Additionally, an important role of this department is the maintenance of the Upson County Comprehensive Plan.  The Comprehensive Plan is a vital tool for our community which helps guide Upson County into the future.  The Department also assists the Upson County Planning Commission for zoning related matters.

 Building Inspections – A traditional role of the department has been to handle both Upson County and the City of Thomaston’s building inspections program.  A Building Official and a Building Inspector manage these inspections.  Upson County requires inspections for: footings, framing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC; and a final inspection.
