The Thomaston Upson
Recreation Department began in the early 1970’s.
The Civic Center was built in 1975 and became the home of the
Recreation Department.
The Thomaston Upson Recreation Department is a joint project with
the City of Thomaston, County of Upson and the Thomaston Upson
Recreation Commission.
The Recreation Department includes the Civic
Center, Weaver Park, Thurston Park, Potato Creek Heights Park, Park
Street, Lincoln Park, Yatesville and Salem community parks.
The Department also includes 8 soccer fields, 4 baseball game
fields, 3 baseball practice fields, 2 adult softball fields, and 4
youth softball fields.
We have one outdoor swimming pool open late May to September and one
Senior Citizens Catfish pond which is open from May to October.
The Thomaston Upson Recreation Department offers a
variety of athletic programs including:
spring and fall baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, tee
ball, flag and tackle football and cheerleading.
Class offerings include:
dance, gymnastics, karate, aerobics, and driving classes.
The Civic Center hosts many community events and is also
available for rentals such as showers, parties, reunions and
weddings.
