The Upson County Rescue Unit is a division of the Thomaston-Upson county Emergency Management Agency. The Rescue Unit is comprised of 68 trained and state certified rescue specialists. Some members are trained in swift water, confined space, high/low angle rescue, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response and storm spotters. All of our personnel are volunteers who also either work or volunteer with one of the Fire/EMS or law enforcement agencies located in Upson County.
The Upson County Rescue Unit primarily serves the Upson County area, but often responds to surrounding counties for mutual aid calls. The majority of our calls for assistance include search operations which include missing children and the elderly; missing/overdue boaters on the Flint River and/or potato creek and response to severe weather situations. We also offer standby services for major public events upon request.
