JOB TITLE:
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
REPORTS TO:
ROAD SUPERINTENDENT
DEPARTMENT:
ROADS
Under direct and
indirect supervision, a person in this position operates equipment used
in the construction and maintenance of roads and rights-of-way.
This person may direct the work of county inmates.
A person in this position does not supervise other county
employees.
--drives dump trucks
and utility tractors.
--controls moving attachments to maintain rights-of- way.
--observes the engine rpm and
adjusts attachment settings on equipment to
maintain sufficient
power.
--observes temperature gauges and valve settings on equipment.
--operates equipment to clear rights-of-way and to break up asphalt.
--other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
--six months
experience or training in the operation of light equipment.
Licenses and Certifications:
--valid motor
vehicle operator’s license.
--possession of or the ability to acquire Commercial Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES;
--knowledge of the
safety principles associated with the operation of equipment.
--ability to work in hot, cold, dirty and dusty conditions.
--ability to lift object of up to 100 pounds.
--ability to follow verbal and written directions and instructions.
--skill in observing the condition of equipment and making minor
repairs.
