District 1 County Commissioner Lorenzo Wilder is a lifelong resident of Upson County.  He was elected in November 2012 and is currently serving his tenth year in office.  Commissioner Wilder is a 1966 graduate of Drake High School where he held the position of President of the Student Council.  Upon graduation, he began his civil service career at Robins Air Force Base as a Radar Repairer.  He attended Macon Technical Institute and obtained a degree in Electronics Technology.   He continued his career enhancement studies at Macon College and completed a business management course at the University of Georgia Institute for Business.

Commissioner Wilder received a promotion to Electronics Integrated Systems Foreman and then to the Radar Flight Chief.  In his role as Radar Flight Chief, he supervised 120 electronics technicians. After two years as Radar Flight Chief, he was promoted and named Deputy Director of Precision Electronics Squadron, consisting of more than 450 military and civilian employees.  He retired after serving forty-one  and one-half years. 

Commissioner Wilder served in the U. S. Naval Reserve as an Aviation Technician in the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory for thirteen years and as Career Information Program Manager for eight years at Naval Air Station Cecil Field in Florida, retiring honorably after twenty-one years and four months. He also served on the Flint River Technical College Board of Directors for nine years and was Board Chair for two of those years. Presently, he serves on the Upson Electric Membership Corporation Board of Directors as the Secretary/Treasurer.

Throughout his ten years in office, Commission Wilder has tackled many important issues that affect his district.  He is most passionate about the preservation and improvement of the county’s parks and recreation areas, as well as the maintenance of Upson County’s roads and streets.

On his motivations for running for office, Commissioner Wilder expressed, “I want to be a part of the team that helps move Upson County forward.  I want to focus on bringing jobs into the area and making this a great place for all to live and raise a family.”

In his free time, Commissioner Wilder enjoys traveling, photography, and marathon running.   He has completed marathons and half marathons throughout the United States and abroad.
